Checked before it's answered, not after
Every question is matched against your content first. If nothing matches closely enough, the model is never asked to answer at all — there's no generation step for it to improvise from, which is different from asking it to be careful.
A boundary you set, not one you hope holds
How close a match needs to be before an answer is allowed is a number you control per widget, along with the message a visitor sees instead. Stricter means fewer answers and more honesty; looser means the reverse — the trade-off is yours to make, not ours to guess at.
The declines are as useful as the answers
Every question that falls below the threshold is recorded. It's the clearest signal you'll get that either a page is missing or an existing one isn't matching the way visitors ask about it.
Common questions
How does it actually decide it doesn't know something?
Your question is compared against your indexed content by similarity. If nothing clears the threshold you've set, the model is never asked to generate an answer — the visitor gets your fallback message instead.
Can I make it stricter or looser?
Yes. The similarity threshold and the fallback message are both configurable per widget, so you can tune how cautious it is against how often it answers.
Does this slow down real answers?
