TeklTalk vs Intercom: do you need a support platform or an answer bot?
These two are not really the same category, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Intercom is a customer-service platform: a helpdesk, a shared inbox for human agents, email and SMS and phone, outbound messaging, and Fin — their AI agent — sitting on top of it. TeklTalk puts a chat widget on your website that answers questions from your own pages and links back to the source. That is the whole product.
So the question is not which is better. It is whether you are staffing a support function or answering the same six questions your website already answers. If you have agents, tickets, and an SLA, Intercom is built for that and we are not.
If you don't, the difference is stark: Intercom starts at $29 per seat per month with Fin billed at $0.99 per outcome on top, and TeklTalk starts free and then at $19/month flat with no seats and no per-answer charge.
No credit card required.

What the AI costs
- TeklTalk
- Nothing extra. Answers come out of your monthly message allowance, whichever model produced them
- Intercom
- Fin is billed at $0.99 per outcome on every plan, on top of the seat price. An 'outcome' is their unit, not ours — it is a resolution Fin is judged to have completed, so the two numbers are not directly comparable
Pricing model
- TeklTalk
- One account, no seats, a flat monthly message count
- Intercom
- Per seat, plus per-resolution usage on top
Time to live
- TeklTalk
- Paste a sitemap, wait for the crawl, add one script tag — about five minutes
- Intercom
- A platform to configure: workspace, inbox, teams, routing, then content for Fin
Answers from your own content, with sources
- TeklTalk
- Every answer links back to the pages it came from
- Intercom
- Fin answers from your content and cites sources
Refusing to guess
- TeklTalk
- A similarity threshold you set. Below it the model is never called and the visitor gets your fallback message
- Intercom
- Fin has guardrails and confidence controls, and can be told to hand off instead of answering
Human handoff
- TeklTalk
- Not available. Unanswered questions can be emailed or sent to Telegram, and there is an optional lead capture form, but nobody can take over the conversation
- Intercom
- The core of the product — a shared inbox, agent assignment, routing rules and SLAs
Channels
- TeklTalk
- The widget on your website, and nothing else
- Intercom
- Website, email, SMS, phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger
Ticketing and helpdesk
- TeklTalk
- Not available
- Intercom
- Full ticketing, macros, workflows, reporting and team management
Integrations and enterprise controls
- TeklTalk
- Script tag and dashboard, plus email or Telegram alerts. No CRM or helpdesk connectors, no SSO, no audit logs
- Intercom
- A large app directory, CRM and commerce connectors, an API, SSO, audit logs, and a support agreement
Track record
- TeklTalk
- A young product from a small team. Our security page lists what we have not yet done, including SOC 2 and a third-party penetration test
- Intercom
- Well over a decade in the market, with the compliance programme a large buyer expects
Where TeklTalk wins
No seats, and no charge per answer
Intercom's bill has two moving parts: how many people are on it, and how much work Fin did. TeklTalk has neither. One account, one flat monthly number, and the number on the pricing page is the number you pay.
You can start for nothing
There is no free Intercom plan — the trial runs fourteen days and then stops. TeklTalk's free plan needs no card, runs indefinitely, and is the same crawler, retrieval and widget the paid tiers use with lower ceilings. You can leave it on a quiet site forever.
It is a smaller thing to set up
Intercom is a platform, and platforms need configuring — workspaces, teams, routing, inboxes — before the AI has anywhere to sit. If all you want is your website's questions answered, that is a lot of scaffolding for the answer. Here it is a sitemap and a script tag.
Priced for a website, not a support team
Three agents on Intercom's entry plan is $87 a month before Fin does any work. TeklTalk Pro is $59 a month with 15,000 messages included. If you have no agents, you are not getting less for the difference — you are declining to buy an inbox.
Where Intercom wins
Anything involving a human
Handoff, ticketing, routing, SLAs, a shared inbox, agent performance reporting. This is most of what Intercom is, and we have none of it. If a conversation ever needs to reach a person, we are the wrong tool.
Every channel that isn't your website
Email, SMS, phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger — Intercom unifies them. Our widget answers on your website and nowhere else.
Doing things, not just answering
Fin can take actions against connected systems — looking up an order, changing a subscription, triggering a workflow. We answer from indexed content and stop there.
The enterprise checklist
SSO, audit logs, role separation, SOC 2, a signed DPA, a named support contact. Intercom has all of it. Our security page is explicit that we do not, and it is the honest reason a larger buyer should not shortlist us yet.
Bottom line
Choose TeklTalk if you want the questions your website already answers to be answered automatically, with a source link and a predictable flat bill, and you don't have a support team to run.
Choose Intercom if conversations need to reach humans, if you support customers on more channels than your website, or if you need the integrations and enterprise controls a support organisation is asked for.
Index your site and see for yourself
The Free plan is the same crawler, the same cited answers, and the same one-line install as every paid tier — just with lower ceilings.
